Welcome to The Cockwart Saga

I am a 58 year old married woman who has a diagnosis of HPV P16 positive Squamous-cell carcinoma.
I presented to ENT head and neck clinic with 1 enlarged lymph node in the section 2 of my left neck ( just under the jaw level with my back teeth) and no other symptoms of cancer.
Ultra sound and Nasendoscopy proved inconclusive, and 4 core biopsies were taken and found to be cancerous and P16 + driven.
The HPV ( human papillomavirus) is a sexually transmitted disease, spread amongst sexually active adults.

8 out of 10 adults contract the virus which can go on to cause various cancers and genital warts ( Hence the name of my blog) I have always tested negative for HPV in my 'ladies' checks and was totally unaware of the risks  dormant HPV can have in regard to throat and tongue cancers from oral sex. In fact it is fast becoming the biggest cause of throat neck and tongue cancers in men and women in their 50's over alcohol or tobacco.
Hopefully with the widespread introduction of HPV vaccines in teenagers now, in a generation HPV driven head and neck cancers will be eradicated.
This is my journey, Welcome to the 'Cockwart Saga'
